I just this weekend activated Kubuntu 18.04
I could not duplicate the error.
I'm thinking back, not to '09 which I can't remember, but to various
times I've had a problem which would have similar results using kompare. They
arose from a error in editing using Emacs when I accidently got two copies
of a file (or of a file and file~) into a single file.
I think you can close this bug report.
