I doubt I'll have time to risk breakages from upgrading until pretty close to
the end of the Kubuntu 14.04 LTS support window in April 2019. (I've had to
waste a day or two hacking around breakages every time I've upgraded my
desktop,  even when doing a clean reinstall rather than an upgrade to minimize
the problem, so I hop from LTS to LTS.)

If someone else can test, it shouldn't really be something specific to my
system.

1. Do any of the still-active protocols support Buzz/Nudge?

2. If so, have someone send you a Buzz/Nudge while they're configured to
produce desktop notifications. Does the resulting desktop notification say who
poked you?
