I think this is mostly visual in nature since it's (reading from your reddit
post OP) more about making the widget parts smaller. You should in my opinion
pick a slimmer widget theme (check out the different Qtcurve themes available)
and make your fonts smaller.
Enforcing a downwards resize seems like a hassle in comparison to the gain when
workarounds are available.
