It seems the starting screen is read earlier than with 16.04, and so whenever I boot, the items are repositioned. I start the laptop and later on (starting KDE) I switch to the high-res screen. Earlier, with 16.04, the behaviour was different, since I could reposition all icons across the high-res screen, and after startup, they were located as before.
