This behavior started a few months ago. I certainly do not "max out" Dolphin in any way. I generally use it only with a couple tabs open. I demand a lot more of Kate, for example, where I keep large projects open all the time. I would say I use Dolphin lightly. BTW, I love Dolphin. I think it is the best file manager on Linux.
