Thank you for your response. I did finally get it to work. I'm not sure what
made it happen but I kept reinstalling. You can close this bug.

Please try resettin Krita's settings:
https://docs.krita.org/en/KritaFAQ.html#resetting-krita-configuration . It is
the kritarc file that contains all the settings.
