Tried V 5.9.0 as suggested. 
Scanning now works OK. 

But manual face naming, editing and auto face recognition are a disaster! 

Features that worked perfectly in V4.12 are now simply rubbish.  

I am building a list of problems and will submit as a bug under V5.9.
