I can confirm this happens in 17.12.2.
Doesn't matter whether you rename in Browse or Image view.
Seems to me Gwenview sort of caches opened images, and identifies them by their
URL (path). Therefore when opening a different image with the same URL,
Gwenview assumes it's the same image and doens't reload it.
