It seems that I do not have this feature in my installation of the latest
version as in the newest snapshot of openSUSE Tumbleweed (20160219, and KDE
5.5.4，kate 15.12.1). I am just about to file a request for such a feature, and
find your post. The other day, I unintentionally opened a .vdi file, about
15GB, and made kate stalk for a long time then I killed the process.
