Besides of this, we have "zoom in", "zoom out", "Original size" buttons in the toolbar with the shortcuts CTRL++, CTRL+- and CTRL+1, respectively. The method you described with pressing the mouse and moving it to the upper left corner to reset the view to its default size won't work in LabPlot - this selection is valid as all the other selections independent of the starting and end points. We zoom in into the selected area in this mode.
