--- Comment #2 from Rick Mason <rick.az.ma...@gmail.com> ---
Hi Giles,

I'll need some more time to do a re-compile for debug. While I have some
IT background, I'm new enough to Linux that I'll have to do some learning.

But, the good news is that while ver 5.6 has the same issues (I installed
it first), 5.7 fixes it. So what ever changed between 5.6 and 5.7 did it.

I can run 5.7 directly by clicking on the appimage file in downloads, but
how do I "install" it so the launcher sees it? Currently, it still calls
5.6

The instructions I found *here
<http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2017/06/digikam-5-6-0-released-how-to-install-it-in-ubuntu/>*
say "The first launch will ask you if to install a shortcut for the
AppImage.", but that was not the case for me, at least for the 5.7 image I
downloaded via the link you provided.

Let me know if a debug dump is still needed given that 5.7 worked.

Thanks for the assist!

Rick
