Your argument "not used on desktop anyway" is invalid, should we use cockpit in future now, because gnome said so? I'm confused. Gnome is known for reducing functionality with every release, KDE not. But not plasma-nm, you decided to follow gnome way. I added patch from https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1066054.html to bring back functionality, so you have no work to bring back functionality!
