I tried a few things with the German layout:
1. it works with Qt applications on Xwayland
2. it works in GTK applications on Wayland
3. it works in KWin (on Wayland) in Present Windows effect
4. it doesn't work in Qt applications on Wayland

This is just another case of Qt not supporting compose on Wayland. I'm sorry.
