Thanks. The *.so file is installed into the wrong directoy. Manually move
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/plugins/org.kde.kdecoration2/kwin_smaragd.so to
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/qt5/plugins/org.kde.kdecoration2/kwin_smaragd.so
until this is fixed.
