Turns out the issue was caused by the Brother scanner’s WSD driver, which
incorrectly redirected duplex ADF scans to the flatbed. Installing Brother’s
native brscan4 driver (v0.4.11-2  dated:04/16/2026) and selecting the centrally
aligned duplex ADF source resolved the problem.
