Bug ID: 524044
Summary: Brief (1/60s) flicker in variable-height row on 9070
XT, appeared after Plasma 6.7.3→6.7.4 upgrade
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.7.4
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: minor
Priority: NOR
Component: wayland-generic
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
After upgrading from Plasma 6.7.3 to 6.7.4, I get a brief (~1 frame, 1/60s)
horizontal flicker in a band of varying height, usually in the lower half of
the monitor. Reproduces on YouTube video playback, in the shutdown-menu
confirmation dialog (triggers on pressing Cancel), and occasionally in-game.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
- Distro: Fedora 44 (KDE Spin)
- Plasma: 6.7.4 (regression from 6.7.3, confirmed via dnf history —
transaction moved kwin, kwin-common, kwin-libs, libplasma,
plasma-workspace(-common/-libs), kscreen, powerdevil together,
no kernel or Mesa changes in the same transaction)
- Session: Wayland
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT
- Connection tested: all DP ports and HDMI — identical result on every one
RULED OUT
- Cable/port: identical across all DP ports and HDMI
- Monitor: PS5 on the same display shows no flicker
- Sustained GPU load: FurMark 4K benchmark at ~125fps never triggers it
- journalctl: silent at every reproduction, including a live `journalctl -f`
watch
- DDC/CI hardware brightness control: disabled, no change
- "Allow screen tearing in fullscreen": disabled, no change
- KWIN_DRM_NO_DIRECT_SCANOUT=1: brief improvement (~few minutes clean),
then recurred on both triggers — inconclusive given the bug's baseline
intermittency
NOT YET TESTED
- Could not confirm against a clean 6.7.3 baseline — Fedora's repo only
serves 6.7.4, and no Btrfs/Snapper snapshot was available to compare
