video showing how to reproduce the bug
DESCRIPTION
Desktop icons change their positions unexpectedly when a rename operation is
cancelled on the Plasma desktop. This happens either when pressing F2 or when
using right-click, then "Rename…".
The issue occurs if the rename is cancelled by clicking on an empty area of the
desktop, or if Enter is pressed without changing the filename and then an empty
area on the desktop is clicked afterward.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Place several icons on the desktop.
2. Select a desktop icon.
3. Press F2 (or right-click, then choose "Rename…").
4. Do one of the following:
a. Click on an empty area of the desktop without confirming the rename,
or
b. Press Enter without changing the filename, then click on an empty
area of the desktop.
5. Observe the icon positions.
OBSERVED RESULT
One or more desktop icons move to different positions after the rename
operation is cancelled, even though the filename was not changed.
EXPECTED RESULT
Cancelling a rename operation, or confirming it without changing the filename,
should leave all desktop icons in their original positions.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Fedora 44 (KDE Plasma Desktop Edition)
KDE Plasma Version: 6.7.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.28.0
Qt Version: 6.11.1
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- I can reproduce it consistently with both F2 and Right Click → Rename….
- The filename remains unchanged when the icon positions move.
