Bug ID: 521951
Summary: Ignore different row animation when changing virtual
desktop in overview
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.7.0
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general

Target Milestone: 1.0
DESCRIPTION
The overview (Meta + W) is amazing in recent versions of Plasma. There is only
one small annoying thing that I think it could be improved easily. At the
moment, the animation when selecting a different virtual desktop is the slide
effect but it takes into account the "geometry" of the virtual desktops even
though this is not used in the overview mode. For example, if a user has 6
virtual desktops and 2 rows, the animations when switching between 1 <-> 2, 2
<-> 3, and 4 <-> 5, 5 <-> 6 are smooth slides, but any other transitions have a
weird jump that is too distracting.
I suggest that either a different effect is used (e.g., fade instead of slide)
to change from virtual desktops in the overview, or that the geometry (i.e.,
row position) is simply ignored and the slide effect only reflects right/left,
but not up/down.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Configure 6 virtual desktops with 2 rows (2 x 3 grid)
2. Enter the overview (Meta + W)
3. Try to switch between virtual desktops in different rows
OBSERVED RESULT
Too fast and distracting slide effect.
EXPECTED RESULT
Smoother effect matching the geometry shown in the overview, not the configured
in the virtual desktops settings, or a simpler effect (e.g., fade)
