Bug ID: 521945
Summary: Confusing duplication and wording in "Configure for
System" page
Classification: Applications
Product: systemsettings
Version First master
Reported In:

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: kcm_notifications

Target Milestone: ---
DESCRIPTION
The "System Notifications" section of this KCM includes some events which seem
to be very close duplicates, which is confusing for the user.
For example, it is not clear what the difference between "Fatal Error - There
was a serious error causing the program to exit", "Catastrophe - A very serious
error occureed, at least causing the program to exit" and "Critical Message - A
critical message is being shown". All of those words imply that the system
program or application cannot continue and must exit. An "Application Crash -
An application just closed unexpectedly" has the same effect as far as the user
is concerned, but I'm assuming that this is reserved for a DrKonqi crash.
Similarly, there are both "Warning - There was an error in the program which
may cause problems" and "Warning Message - A warning message is being shown".
There is no implication that a program needs to exit in these cases, but the
sounds played are different.
There also seems to be no benign "Error - The program detected a problem but is
able to continue running" message category.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Execute 'kcmshell6 notifications"
2. Click on "Configure for System"
3. Observe 3 very similar entries "Fatal Error" , "Catastrophe" and "Critical
Message", and also 2 similar entries "Warning" and "Warning Message". Try to
work out what the difference between these is or which one may relate to a
particular event.
