Because of Bug374925 I regularly check the directories where I move or copy mails and thus can partially confirm this behaviour. All mails - read or unread - end up in the new subdirectory and stay there. Always move them by hand. Maybe that is why I do not experience the crashes when deleting mails? But mails that directly arrive to the inbox are moved from new to cur after being read.
