It is apparently a known thing that some disks need a password and some dont.
Without an additional polkit rule, all "external" or "removable" disks can be
mounted without a password, while "internal" disks need a password. So if you
have this issue, it might be because of the connector, of because it is simply
an internal disks. Some SATA-USB converters are incorrectly detected as
internal.
