I also want to add my 2 cents:
I have nix installed (using the determinate nix installer) which depends on
nixbldXX users that, by default, are created with uids >30000.
It seems like plasma login manager treats them as normal users even if they do
not have a login shell defined. 
I also just get a blank login screen with no user preselected. 
Using SDDM I was able to define a range of uids where SDDM was looking for
users to display. This doesn't seem to be the case for plasma login manager.
I would love to have a option to either whitelist a range of uids or blacklist
specific users.
