Bug ID: 514747
Summary: Alt+Tab still repeats/cycles when key repeat is
disabled (Wayland)
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.5.2
Reported In:
Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: tabbox
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
On Plasma 6.5.2 (Wayland), the Alt+Tab task switcher (“Walk Through Windows”)
advances through multiple windows when I press-and-hold Alt+Tab, even when Key
Repeat is disabled in System Settings. I expect exactly one step to the
previously used window per physical key press, and no repeated cycling while
Tab is held.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. System Settings -> Keyboard -> Key Repeat: turn OFF “Key repeat” (Apply).
2. Log out and log back in (Wayland session) to ensure settings are applied.
3. Verify repeat is actually off in a normal text field/app (e.g. in KWrite:
press-and-hold the “a” key; it should type only one “a”).
4. Open 3+ application windows.
5. Press and hold Alt, then press and hold Tab (keep Tab held down).
OBSERVED RESULT
The task switcher selection advances through multiple windows while Tab is
held, even though key repeat is disabled globally. (In my case it does NOT wrap
around endlessly; it stops at the ends.)
EXPECTED RESULT
With Key Repeat disabled, holding Alt+Tab should not generate repeated “Tab”
actions in the task switcher. It should move at most one step (to the
previously used window) per physical Tab press.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Tuxedo OS
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.2
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- Related: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454474 (fixed-in 6.3.0: stops
wrap-around when shortcut is held, Wayland-only). My issue is different: key
repeat is disabled, but Alt+Tab still advances multiple times while Tab is
held.
- Possibly related historically: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=408943
(KWin not respecting keyboard repeat settings on Wayland in the past).
