SUMMARY
This regression started occuring in 25.12. Basically when you sort by size and
then by something else (i.e. name), whatever option is selected for (A-Z, Z-A |
or in the case of size, largest first or smallest first) switches to a
different setting than what was set previously. Before in 25.08, when I opened
Dolphin with sort by size selected with smallest first and switched from size
to sort by created, suddenly now it flip flops, using the alternate option
'newest first'. *Note, if the user selects one of the two modifier options,
such as oldest first or newest first, dolphin remembers this as you would
expect. HOWEVER. If you close dolphin and reopen, this is no longer the case!
This ONLY happens when closing dolphin. There seems to be two separate bugs at
play here.
One is the closing and reopening dolphin causing settings to reset for sort by.
Two is the sort by mode NOT being consistent with how 25.08 used to be.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open dolphin.
2. Check your sort by mode, change it to size and verify that the modifier
option is newest first (this is how it was for me upon upgrading to 25.12 and
it is NOT what I had selected in 25.08).
3. Change to sort by created. Notice how it flip flops, changing to oldest.
Moreover, notice how this is NOT consistent with how sort by worked in 25.08.
4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 again after changing to 'newest first'. Dolphin will
save this option correctly.
5. Close and reopen dolphin.
OBSERVED RESULT
Dolphin does not remember which of the two modifier options you saved for 'sort
by' last time. The sort by mode also has been changed and is not consistent
with the previous release.
EXPECTED RESULT
Dolphin remembers which of the two modifier options you want for each sort by
mode, instead of flip flopping randomly. Sort by mode should be consistent.
CONCLUSION
Perhaps there should be an option to save a default for a sort by mode by the
user? Would this be possible?

Note that I am using 'Use common display style for all folders' in dolphin.
