--- Comment #25 from Sergio <[email protected]> --- Hi, improving the message helps! The fundamental problem remains, though: to make a system tray icon work, you need to grant a permission to read the screen. This teaches users that to have “fundamental” functionality you need to grant apps permissions to read the screen, which may lead to users granting that permission to malicious apps too without thinking. Real solution would be to have electron apps being able to use the systray on plasma without the need for special permissions to read the whole screen. In this respect, it is unclear to me if the issue is with electron, plasma or both. Surely, applications using older versions of the electron framework use the systray without asking for special permissions (e.g., sleek 0.20). Apps using more recent versions of the framework do (e.g.sleek 0.22). Another even more fundamental problem is that once granted the permission, no-one knows how to revoke it or where it is stored. Until no long ago, I could see the permission with |flatpak permissions|, now I cannot anymore. Furthermore, the permissions entry of the kde system settings is grayed out. Finally, the permission is not in any of the locations suggested by chatgpt. Info on the last point would be great to have.
