The behavior of ThumbnailLoadThread::findGroup() seems to be intentional; the signal is only fired once, after it has been loaded. On all subsequent attempts, during the conversion from ThumbnailIdentifier to LoadingDescription, it checks whether the thumbnail is already in the cache. The load request is then discarded.
