Bug ID: 512634
Summary: Pasting image data clipboard contents fails to
generate a file
Classification: Applications
Product: dolphin
Version First 25.08.3
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
CC: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
I often used Dolphin's feature of pasting images from the web into files as the
most convenient way to get quick temporary PNG conversions of JPEGs. It was so
useful for what I needed it for, but suddenly stopped working spontaneously one
day, and continued not working even after restarting every service I could
think of and reinstalling Dolphin. My life is immeasurably worse now.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Copy an image on a browser
2. Confirm that it's been copied by looking on the system tray clipboard widget
3. Paste image contents to any folder in Dolphin, the filename and data format
dialogue box will appear
4. Press OK
OBSERVED RESULT
No file is created, regardless of selected file type or name. No observable
error code as far as I'm aware
EXPECTED RESULT
A file with your chosen parameters should be created in the folder
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma 6 on Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.3
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.20.0
Qt Version: 6.10.0
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Other tested variables: Pasting text into dolphin successfully creates a file.
Pasting image data into Krita or LibreOffice works as expected. The same
mechanism albeit with no file type/name options appears to also exist in
Nautilus, which also creates a file successfully. Dolphin appears to be the
common denominator, as well as Gwenview although it likely uses the same system
as Dolphin as another KDE program.
