Bug ID: 511543
Summary: kwin_wayland can't see display mode that gnome-shell
(on wayland) can
Classification: Plasma
Product: kwin
Version First 6.5.1
Reported In:
Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: platform-drm
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]

Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
The only 1080p mode that seems to allow all three of my Dell U2424HE to work
under DisplayPort MST (daisy-chaining) is [email protected].
However, this mode is only available in gnome-shell, not Plasma.
(Regarding MST: this seems to be different between DisplayPort input and
DP-alt-mode-under-USB-C input, my laptop using the alt mode seems to Just Work
with all three monitors...)
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
0. Buy a Dell U2424HE (...yeah, I know :/ I've attached the EDID at least >.<)
1. Open KDE System Settings
2. Go to Display Configuration
3. Pick the DELL U2424HE monitor
4. Pick the 1920 x 1080 resolution
5. Open the Refresh rate dropdown
OBSERVED RESULT
The following refresh rates are listed:
- 120.00 Hz
- 119.88 Hz
- 100.00 Hz
- 60.00 Hz
- 59.94 Hz
- 50.00 Hz
Picking the 119.88 Hz option seems to give 119.88 Hz *exactly*, `jq
.[0].data[0].mode.refreshRate ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json` is 119880.
EXPECTED RESULT
GNOME lists two options labeled 119.88 Hz.
One of them writes 119.880 into ~/.config/monitors.xml and is unable to drive
the monitor (under MST, with MST enabled in turn), the other writes 119.877
into ~/.config/monitors.xml and works fine.
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.10.0
Kernel Version: 6.17.6-zen1-1-zen (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 24 × AMD Ryzen 9 5900X 12-Core Processor
Memory: 64 GiB of RAM (62.7 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Compared to kscreen-doctor, System Settings seems to perform some deduplication
of the listed modes. However, I wasn't able to configure the required mode
through there either. Manually configuring the mode in kwinoutputconfig.json
also didn't seem to change anything.
