Android permissions (since Android 4.4 I think) might make KDE Connect not be able to access your SD Card, which is the core issue here. I don't know if this can affect MTP as well... but I think it shouldn't. Since I don't have a device with this problem, I can't reproduce the problem though. It might be possible to fix this if we request access to the SD card from the app, via a file picker, using the new Android Storage Access Framework API.
