To install synaptic package manager run Discover and search for synaptic. When
it is run, the column on the left has categories of "Installed", "Installed
(auto removable)", etc. You should have an "Installed Updatable" category.
Select this and scroll to the first linux-modules-nvidia-550 entry; right click
and select "Mark for Upgrade"; Click "apply" in the top ribbon; and click OK to
confirm.
It will then download and install all Nvidia modules. The discover update
should now run.

Synaptic package manager was one of the original package managers and has a lot
of options for fixing broken packages and updating. Discover should normally be
used as synaptic does not handle snap and other more recent package types.
