Bug ID: 510777
Summary: Application dashboard initial keyboard focus is wrong
Classification: Plasma
Product: plasmashell
Version First 6.4.5
Reported In:
Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
Severity: minor
Priority: NOR
Component: Application Dashboard widget
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: 1.0
SUMMARY
When opening the application dashboard (as an application launcher menu
replacement), the keyboard focus is initially on the categories section (the
rightmost one), which is annoying if you want to choose one of the favorite
launchers using the keyboard - you have to click LEFT enough time to move
through the top row of the recent applications list, which could be as much as
8 key strokes, before you reach the favorite section, and then 2 more key
strokes to get to the most favorite launcher (if that's what you wanted, which
it will probably be most of the time). Compare to the other application
launcher alternatives where the most favorite launcher is focused initially -
so selecting it just hitting ENTER.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Setup application dashboard as the application launcher (right click the
application launcher in the panel, select "show alternatives", select
"application dashboard).
2. use the keyboard shortcut to start the application launcher (by default:
META)
3. Press ENTER to launch your most favorite application
OBSERVED RESULT
Nothing happens because the keyboard focus is on the categories list, which
acts selection change and ENTER does nothing when the categories list has
focus.
EXPECTED RESULT
The most favorite application will start
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Fedora Linux 42
KDE Plasma Version: 6.4.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.9.2
Kernel Version: 6.16.10-200.fc42.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: offscreen
Processors: 8 × AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 2400GE w/ Radeon Vega Graphics
Memory: 16 GiB of RAM (14.6 GiB usable)
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This is mostly a problem when using the application dashboard as the "10 foot"
interface for a home theater setup - we typically use remotes with very limited
number of keys and no mouse support (or very uncomfortable mouse emulation). In
Plasma 5 the application dashboard was behaving correct in that manner - the
keyboard focus was initially on the favorites section, which made the
application dashboard a great option as the main launcher for a home theater.
