--- Comment #11 from [email protected] --- yes PNG is lossless. In fact it use an opensource LZW compression (zip like). Result files are huge in all case. It support 16 bits color depth. HEIF can be lossless or not. Compression uses wavelets (eg. mp4). It support 12 bits color depth. HEIF is typically the replacement of JPEG in phone, even if it's patented and require more computation to compress/uncompress. HEIF is mature at less to be used in production.
