I suspect the 5.2 consistency check might find some issues. I don't want to duplicate any of the troubleshooting you have done with Thomas, but have you run the program under a debugger to get a backtrace? Can you extract the <ACCOUNT ......> entry for one of those imported accounts, perhaps one regular account and one category?
