Fast command line output in Kate before the crash is:

QFileSystemWatcher: FindNextChangeNotification failed for "Y:\etc"  (An
unexpected network error occurred.)
qt.core.filesystemwatcher: file changed "Y:/etc/CraftSettings.ini" removed?
