This would open up an absolutely massive can of worms.

Edit a file in nano, you change two files
Edit a file in kwrite, you get two independent files now out of sync.

I'm sure everyone who is here saying they want this feature understands that
and knows why, but we have to find a way to communicate that to people new to
hard links. That's impossible.

And that's not even getting into file system differences.

It's your call as you've done more KIO stuff than me, but if you think it's
niche think about whether you want the headache of maintaining the feature. The
most important job you can do as maintainer is saying no to things.

Telling people to make a patch and then having it rejecting will get people a
lot more frustrated.
