I have the same issue and noticed in my case that it only refuses to work on
the first desktop reached after login. In my case it’s the one from which I
last shut my system down (I don’t know if there’s a setting for this). For
example, if I have four desktops and shutdown from the 3rd, on next login I
will land on it. KRunner will then work (by typing on the desktop) on the 1st,
2nd, and 4th, but not on the 3rd.
After some time though, it seems to again from from all of them.
