Bug ID: 506760
Summary: Frozen save attempts block all obvius save recovery
options with the posibility of causing a complete loss
of all progress
Classification: Applications
Product: krita
Version First unspecified
Reported In:
Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
Severity: grave
Priority: NOR
Component: File formats
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
Target Milestone: ---
SUMMARY
If a save attempt freezes it currently blocks all easy ways to do any
alternative saves resulting in lost progress
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Have a save freeze
2. Attempt to save or export to a new file
OBSERVED RESULT
All "obvius" "save recovery" options are blocked
(Seems like layer exports might be one way to not loose all progress if you
have to force quit)
EXPECTED RESULT
Export all layers to a new folder should exist as it's own option and mentioned
as a recovery option in the error message
Exporting or saving to a new file should be allowed.
Alternatively, if a save is blocked the user should have the option to corrupt
the ongoing save attempt to make a new one.
CURRENT WORK AROUND - IF YOUR PANICING READ EVERYTHING BEFORE DOING ANYTHING
Ignore all save/export options under File
Under the Layers menue use the export layer function since it should still work
(make new layer from visible is probably advisable to make and export as extra
safty if anything else breaks)
Before closing Krita make sure that you have all needed layers saved since
there is no recovery after you force quit Krita (this might not be posible for
bigger files since you will basically have keep two of them open, also, you can
still not save the new copy of the project until you have closed Krita)
The last step is to reasemble the project from the layer exports and hope that
you got everything needed (This is where the combined layers might be usefull
if anything is missing since you might at least have the combined layer to fall
back on, eg all the lineart and the coloring as two separate layes.)
SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows: 11
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This happened while working on a 30k x 20k file with an SD pluggin so either
could be the culprint for the frozen save and the project file had saved
multiple times succesfully before, I had disable the autosave since it caused
Krita to turn unresponsive but I guess I should have just increased the save
timer a lot.
