My config is separated: / for operating system,
data etc is mounted on a separate filesystem.
I installed a fresh opensuse 15.6 and linked my thunderbird, mozilla etc
directories in my /home/user on /
to my data filesystem.
the problem disappeared. apparently something in the root config caused the
problem, since my user data did not change a single bit....
I think this bug needs to be closed. I still have the 15.5 install; if anyone
is interested, let me know.
