In https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389495, it is demonstrated that GTK ≥ 3 is able to request SSDs for an application, so you may merely have located examples of such GTK 3 apps and be comparing them to GTK 4 applications that utilise Libadwaita (which is not unanimous).
