            Bug ID: 505112
Summary: Splash Screen does not show up when signing in to a
                    Wayland session
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
      Version First 6.3.5
       Reported In:
          Platform: Arch Linux
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: minor
          Priority: NOR
         Component: Splash Screens
          Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
          Reporter: legalizecatgirls@shitposting.expert
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

Signing in to a Wayland session through SDDM doesn’t display the splash screen,
instead just showing a black screen until the desktop loads. Signing into an
X11 session shows the splash screen as normal

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Select any Splash Screen in settings
2. Select the Plasma (Wayland) session on the SDDM login screen
3. Sign in as normal

OBSERVED RESULT
The display flickers grey, then stays black until the desktop loads.

EXPECTED RESULT
The display shows the splash screen until the desktop loads

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: 6.14.9-arch1-1
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.14.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I’ve had this happen on both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, as well as both on my nearly
fresh Arch install and a Fedora KDE live USB. Configuring sddm to use
kwin_wayland as per the arch wiki prevents the splash screen from showing
altogether, even when signing into an X11 session.
