In essence, Gilles wrote to me to say that DIGIKAM 8,7 had a new feature
to able to select images and put them in layers which enabled the use
of blend modes in GMIC. I did some tests with two BLEND modes ( edges
and fades) and I tried to focus stack 4 pictures I took with different
focus point. I found it difficult to use these blend modes as the
documentation is near non-existent ( see
https://gmic.eu/reference/list_of_commands.html#blending_and_fading )
and documentation does not explain the parameters of the different
sliders. For a reason or another, GMIC blend produces two or three
output picture with barely any focus improvement. I think that these
blend modes have a different purpose and they do not do focus staking.
See a good example of an application that does focus stacking named
Picolay: https://www.picolay.de/index.html.

Thank you for all the work that you do to make DigiKam a very useful
tool to manage my 100,000 + photos.

Kind regards,

Michel
