--- Comment #2 from KB.claim <kb.cl...@gmail.com> --- hello ralph, i am giving up on kmymoney, so not really motivated to further put effort into this broken and unmaintained and un-communitied tool. However, that i seem to have found out is that the failure happens when there is a foreign currency (lets say base currency is EUR, foreign currency is MNT to take something exotic). As we all know is that kmymoney online price retrieval is working only for a few weeks at a time and after that users are required to program around html streams with regular expressions without any description or guidance from forums (so much to the "easiest" personal finance manager). So lets assume the price update for MNT did not work and the last exchange rate from MNT to EUR would be a week old. Instead of kMyMoney taking the last known exchange rate to sum up balance sheets in EUR, it seems to take an exchange rate of 1. So if one holds 1000 EUR and 1.000.000 (one Million) MNT (which is around 250 EUR), kmymoney comes out with a sensational balance of 1.001.000 EUR!!!!! instead of 1250 EUR. It is such a horrible failure that kMyMoney entirely cannot be trusted anymore. I do think it keeps records straight (non are lost, or doubled or values change, or get assigned wrongly or so), BUT ANY SUM / aggregation / report in kMyMoney cannot be trusted. There are several such effects where incredible amounts are appearing, e.g. around opening balances. Again without any number being anywhere close kMyMoney makes you a millionaire for opening balances of the accounts. Or another unbelievable failure is in the "charts". Open an account in the base currency (EUR lets say). Add 100 EUR (via opening balance, or transfer from another account) and make all of that a while in the past, then open the chart. Instead of a straight line one sees wild fluctuations - it is so unbearable to see this as obviously nobody ever in 20 years even tested or tried or reported such bugs which are really kindergarden level. Instead of warning users of its beta state still after more than 20 years i guess, there is an arrogant, useless, and humiliating developer and documenter team. Jack Ostroff instead of helping users humiliates them by asking whether they did online research. He has not published a single useful line and I had fed back dozens of comments on how to improve documentation. I dont know your relationship to the current developers, but these as a total are appearing completely embarrassing and for the sake of this tool need to be removed entirely! Let them solve mathematical philosophical riddles, but not work on a software for the masses. They have not published a release in more than 3 years and have not made a single announcement in that time. A complete failure and abandonware. I am so pissed because i moved a significant accounting from ods to kMymoney, even after weeks of research of the different tools, the blunt lies of kMyMoney to be the best and easiest financial manager made me use it. But reality of this tool is completely different. There is not much really working in this tool and it starts at installation. Bla Bla, bugs, lies, failures, non existing community, arrogant a-holes in the developer team, etc. I find it completely unethical to publish and frame this piece of crap as being "the best". Just frame it as is - an abandonware, unmaintained for years, completely arrogant and derailed philosophers in the "development team". Online rates not working, reports not working, stock investments are a joke and despite a total sum of value for a depot it cannot show anything else, retrieving transaction data from online bank accounts a complete failure. All of that is described as working, but ZERO works. kMyMoney is an entire and complete lie and for the free-software warriers an insult that such lies are posted on their websites despite full knowledge of this being lies. A shame, completely irresponsible to publish this crap as accounting software. Luckily I kept my ods accounting in parallel and am very certain to be able to prove which crap kMyMoney is. Certainly nothing that can be recommended to anyone doing accounting. Probably with 2 accounts in one currency it might work, if one does not need online rates. However, i have departed from this crap ware already and instead of putting hours and hours into wasting my time i keep on moving else where. BTW - after upgrading to Ubuntu 25 from Ubuntu 24 the complete reporting function disappeared by magic in my kMyMoney installation. Users just need to know which complete crap kMyMoney is and should only install it if they have academic interest or a tendency for sado masochism. if one wants to keep an overview of his assets without beind drawing into hourse of humiliating crap discussions about cloud flare, philosophies of man in the middle, html streams or flatpak details and such crap then stay away.
