I can confirm this undesired behaviour in both snap and flatpak version 1.40 in
Ubuntu 24.04 Wayland. After checking the box to 'start in fullscreen mode' if
I start a video from Nautilus (I have Haruna set as my default video player)
nothing happens at all, as in no video plays. Starting Haruna from the apps
menu with the box to 'start in fullscreen mode' checked does open the player
but in the default window size and not fullscreen. I am able to toggle in and
out of fullscreen using the f key so I know my environment is capable of
displaying Haruna in fullscreen.
