It's been a while, but I have some more info. I've found that using another
video clip entirely and rendering it with one text box works perfectly fine;
there's no issue with my installation of kdenlive. I don't know exactly which
clip of mine from the corrupted file could be the one causing all of this mess,
but it's certainly not a transcoding error. The clip I used for testing today
wasn't transcoded and kdenlive told me it's not suitable for editing. I don't
know a lot about transcoding or the specifics of editing in general, but I
thought it might be worth mentioning.

I'm going to try and delete clips one by one in the corrupted file to see if I
can pinpoint which exactly is the cause. If it ends up being all of the
footage, then I'll be a bit angry but nevertheless satisfied that I found out
the issue. That'll just leave the question of how it got corrupted in the first
place, as nothing in my recording setup has changed...
