Indeed, I can reproduce this only on one of my machines.

So it may be dependent on one of the backends or repositories that are
configured. I can try to disable the package sources one by one to see if
something changes.

I don't think the spinner ever stops, but I never tried for more than 2-3
minutes. Is a longer observation timeframe helpful?

About Cantor, yes I think I had installed on the machine where the problem
appears. I'll double check to see if it has been removed or is still installed.
