I can confirm that this bug happens in versions 5.1.0 to 5.2.9 linux appimages.
The crash does not occur in versions
- krita-5.0.6-x86_64.appimage
- krita-5.2.10-prealpha-8459ccdbeb-x86_64.AppImage

5.1.0 Introduced ability to cut a selection of all the child layers when a
Group is highlighted in Layers, which could be causing the issue.
The crash only happens on X11. I could not reproduce the bug on LXQt+Wayfire
