SUMMARY
After waking the laptop from sleep, lockscreen doesn't accept keyboard input
(with an external screen). This happens from time to time. Even the virtual on
screen keyboard doesn't work.
Saw this thread:

and it was suggested to plug/unplug the screen. After doing that, keyboard
started working.
