            Bug ID: 502651
Summary: The background of translucent widgets is brighter than
                    SDR white in HDR mode
    Classification: Plasma
           Product: plasmashell
           Version: 6.3.4
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
          Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
          Reporter: dantmnf2+kdeb...@gmail.com
                CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
Transparency (and fade-in) effects applied to plasma widgets will make them
show brighter than configured SDR brightness on HDR display. This is undesired
for UI elements, especially when the content (like application icons) is still
composited with SDR brightness.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable HDR in Display Configuration
2. Open a window with SDR white for reference
3. Compare brightness of translucent widgets and SDR white

OBSERVED RESULT
The background of translucent widgets is brighter than SDR white

EXPECTED RESULT
The background of translucent widgets is not brighter than SDR white, just like
how it works on SDR display.

There is no easy way to capture HDR output from kwin at the moment, therefore
no screenshot available.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
(available in the Info Center app, or by running `kinfo` in a terminal window)
Linux/KDE Plasma:
KDE Plasma Version: 6.3.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.12.0
Qt Version: 6.9.0

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Translucent background for regular windows (like konsole) does not have weird
brightness.
