I suspect that recognition always starts with FaceID 1, then 2, 3, 4, etc. Ignored faces are skipped. If the automatic face search is running and digiKam is closed, the search will not continue the next time the program is started. The function doesn't have to remember every FaceID, but perhaps all 500 FaceIDs as a new starting point at program startup?
