Hello Kdenlive Community,

I am a user who frequently works with video files and I have a feature request
that I believe would greatly improve the workflow for many users.

Currently, when I want to split a video clip into segments of a specific
duration, I have to manually use the razor tool and click at each desired
point. For example, if I have a 30-second video and I want to split it into
8-second segments, I need to make several manual cuts (resulting in three
8-second clips and one 6-second clip). This process can be time-consuming and
less precise.

I would like to request a feature that allows users to automatically split a
selected video clip on the timeline into segments of a user-defined duration.
Ideally, the user would be able to input a time value (in seconds or frames),
and Kdenlive would automatically create cuts at those intervals across the
selected clip. If the total duration of the clip is not perfectly divisible by
the specified segment length, the final segment would simply be shorter.

For instance, if a 30-second clip is selected and the user enters a segment
duration of 8 seconds, Kdenlive would automatically split the clip at the
8-second mark, the 16-second mark, and the 24-second mark, resulting in four
clips with durations of 8s, 8s, 8s, and 6s respectively.

I believe this feature would significantly speed up the editing process for
users who need to create multiple clips of a consistent length from a longer
source video. It would also offer more precision compared to manual cutting.

I have searched the documentation and online resources but haven’t found a
built-in way to achieve this automatically. While I understand that Python
scripting might be an option, a direct feature within the Kdenlive interface
would be much more accessible for all users.

Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to hearing your thoughts
on this.

Sincerely,

FreeAndNil
